10 Delicious Foods That Burn Fat

Almonds

Almonds are a healthy snack that is rich in protein, fibre and essential fatty acids. They have many health benefits but what we will be focusing on is the ability to aid in digestion and speed up the metabolism thus helping you to shed unwanted pounds. Make sure you soak them over night to remove the enzymes that inhibit you from absorbing all of the nutrients.

Whole Grains

You maybe thinking, how do starchy carbohydrates help me lose weight? Well that’s because they are packed with fibre which fills you up and they have a low glycemic index which helps to keep you fuller for longer. Not to mention they are much better for you resulting in more energy thus keeping you more active. On top of that they help kurb insulin levels resulting in reduced fat storage.(In comparison to refined white carbohydrates)

Broccoli

Broccoli helps you keep of the pounds due to the fact that it is low calorie but a big serving size. So you will get full before you manage to consume too many calories. Broccoli is also very nutritious, did you know it has more vitamin C than oranges? Food for thought, mind the pun.

Chick Peas

I could have actually put all beans and lentils in here. Most of them have roughly  the right balance of protein to carbohydrates – 1 gram of protein to every 2 grams of carbohydrates. They are also packed with fibre to fill you up. The problem with most western diets is that they contain too much meat (protein) and any excess protein gets converted to fat. So every now and then have a vegan meal. Try chick peas with a salad it will give your body what it needs without overdoing it.

Spices

You are probably thinking all of the above don’t sound very tasty and that is true, that is why you mix them with different herbs, spices and seasonings, they are often low calories and have a myriad of health benefits. Did you know that ginger and cinnamon speeds up your metabolism

Peppers

Chilli and Jalapenos are rich in an enzyme called capsaicin which oxidizes fat cells causing your fat cells to literaly melt away, they also help to speed up metabolism – if you can’t handle the heat of chilli or jalapenos then go for capsicum instead. (It has a similar effect)

Kale

This is a very nutritious green leafy vegetable packed full of fibre and micro nutrients. It will help you to detox which in turn will free up the liver so that it can get rid of those nasty unwanted fat cells, it is also low calories so you can fill up without consuming too many calories.

Squash, Pumpkin, Sweet Potato

These are all rich in antioxidants to help keep you young, fibre to fill you up and they are low in calories. The squash is slightly lower than the sweet potato but they are both great health foods, it is good to have variety.

Chia Seeds

I mention these little gems in just about every one of my posts and for good reason, they help slim you in many different ways but what I will be focusing on is their omega 3 content – this helps boost the metabolism and also reduces the amount of a hormone called Leptin.

Leptin is the hormone that switches on hunger messages to your brain. These seeds are also rich in micro nutrients, sometimes when you are hungry it is because your body is lacking in micro nutrients not macro nutrients. These are just one of the many ways in which chia seeds will help you to lose weight.

Bananas

Ok so you are now thinking what is fruit doing on this list? How is consuming sugar going to help me to lose weight? Well it is due to the fact that bananas contain resistant starch, this starch gets converted to fatty acid in the stomach due to the good bacteria  in the stomach. This aids in metabolising fat and prevents further fat accumulation. Of course they also contain a lot of sugar (fructose) so don’t over do it.
